India has become the chairman of the Asian Productivity Organisation for the 2025-26 term. It assumed the chairmanship during the 67th session of the Governing Body Meeting of the Asian Productivity Organisation. The 67th session was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 20-22 May 2025.
The Governing Body Meeting is the highest decision-making body of the Asian Productivity Organisation.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry represents India at the Asian Productivity Organisation.
The Secretary DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is also the Asian Productivity Organisation Director for India.
Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary of DPIIT, will assume the responsibility of Chairmanship of the Asian Productivity Organisation on behalf of India.
The National Productivity Council of the DPIIT send 100 Indian professionals every year to participate in APO-led capacity-building initiatives.
This has contributed significantly to improving productivity in the country’s agricultural, industrial and services sectors.
The Asian Productivity Organisation is an intergovernmental organisation that was established in 1961.
The first Governing Body Meeting of the Asian Productivity Organisation was held in Tokyo, Japan, in 1961.
Aim and Function
Members - 21: Japan, India Bangladesh, Cambodia, the Republic of China, Fiji, Hong Kong, Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Korea(South Korea), Lao PDR, Nepal, Turkiye, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.
