The G-20 Summit 2026 will be hosted by the USA

US President Donald Trump said that America will host the next G-20 summit at his Doral Golf Resort in Florida and described it as the “best place” for this major international event. The G20 consists of some of the world’s major economies, the European Union, and the African Union.

• US President Donald Trump confirmed that the leaders of the Group of 20 (G20) will gather at his Doral Golf Club near Miami in southern Florida for the 2026 summit.
• This announcement came after Trump’s statement in July this year in which he said that he could not attend the G-20 summit to be held in November 2025, due to differences with host South Africa over its land and Israel-related policies.
• In 2020, Trump backed off from his plan to host the G-20 summit at Doral during his first term.

Previous meetings

• India chaired the G-20 summit for the first time in 2023.
• In 2024, the G-20 summit was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 18-19, 2024, with the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.”
• The 2025 Johannesburg summit will be the twelfth meeting of the G-20, which will be a meeting of heads of state and government from November 22 to 23, 2025.
• It will be the first G-20 summit to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, and on the African continent. South Africa has adopted the theme “Unity, Equality, Sustainability.”

About G-20

• The G-20 was established in 1999 after the Asian financial crisis as a forum for finance ministers and central bank governors to discuss global economic and financial issues.
• After the 2007-08 financial crisis, the G-20 was upgraded to the level of leaders, and in 2009 it was declared the premier forum for global economic cooperation.
• Its members include 19 national economies, the European Union (EU), and the African Union (AU). India became a member of the G-20 in 1999 when the group was established.
• Other countries can be invited on an ad hoc basis as “special guests.”
• The Troika system (current, previous, and upcoming chairs) manages the work of the G20, in which the 2025 Troika includes South Africa (current), Brazil (previous), and the USA (upcoming chair in 2026).
