PM Modi Set to Visit UK and Maldives for High-Level Bilateral Talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay an official visit to the United Kingdom and the Maldives from July 23 to 26, 2025. PM Modi’s visit to both countries will further strengthen the bilateral ties between India and these two countries.
During the United Kingdom visit, the free trade agreement (FTA) between India and the United Kingdom is expected to be formally signed.
Prime Minister Modi will be the chief guest of the 60th Independence Day celebration in the Maldives.
In the first leg of his visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United Kingdom on 23 – 24 July 2025.
It will be the fourth visit of Prime Minister Modi to the United Kingdom.
He first visited the country in 2015, and his last visit was in 2021 to attend the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP 26) in Glasgow.
It will be his first visit to the United Kingdom after Keir Starmer's government came to power in 2024.
During his meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, both leaders are expected to discuss bilateral and global issues.
India and the United Kingdom have a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP). Both leaders are expected to review bilateral relations, with a specific focus on improving ties in trade and economy, defence and security, technology and innovation, climate, education, and people-to-people relations.
PM Modi will also meet the United Kingdom’s Monarch, King Charles III, during his visit.

Prime Minister Modi is expected to sign the free trade agreement (FTA) with the United Kingdom during his visit to the country.
On 6 May 2025, both countries announced the conclusion of the negotiations on the FTA between the two countries.
The details of the FTA deal are expected to be made public with the expected signing of the FTA during PM Modi’s visit.
After that, the FTA must be ratified by both governments before it can be formally implemented.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Maldives on 25-26 July 2025, marking his third visit to the country.
PM Modi first visited Maldives on 17 November 2018 to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. He was the only foreign dignitary to be invited to the swearing ceremony.
He visited the Maldives in June 2019, marking his first official bilateral visit to the country.

Prime Minister Modi will be the first foreign Head of State or Government to visit after President Maldives Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office in November 2023.
PM Modi will be the ‘Guest of Honour’ at the 60th Independence Day celebration of Maldives on 26 July 2025.
Maldives is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean and is a South Asian Country.
