India’s Wind Energy Grows Over 10.5% to Reach 51.5 GW: Pralhad Joshi

According to Pralhad Joshi, the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, the country's total installed wind energy capacity has risen to 51.5 gigawatts (GW) from 46.42 GW last year, registering a growth rate of 10.5%.
While addressing an event on the occasion of the 2025 Global Wind Day World in Bengaluru, the Minister said that India’s renewable energy sector has witnessed unprecedented growth in the last 10 years.
The government of India has set a target to meet 50 % of India’s energy demand from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030 and achieve a net-zero carbon emission status by 2070.
The total installed wind power capacity in the country as on 31 May 2025 was 51292.25 MW.
The total capacity addition in 2024-25 was 4151.31 MW.
India has the world's fourth-largest installed wind power capacity after China, the United States of America and Germany.

Every year, 15th June is observed as Global Energy Day.
The Global Wind Energy Day was established by the European Wind Energy Association in 2007.
In 2009, the European Wind Energy Association joined hands with the Global Wind Energy Council to make the Global Wind Energy Day a global event.
The aim was to raise awareness among people and policymakers about the importance of wind as a clean and renewable energy source.
