- It is noteworthy that India was at the seventh position till 2023, but in 2024 it has reached the third-best position in the global ranking. India has climbed four positions in one year – surpassing Asian tech leaders such as the United Kingdom as well as South Korea, Singapore and Japan.
- The report states how governments across the world are increasing AI investments: Canada has launched a $2.4 billion fund, China a $47.5 billion semiconductor fund, France has pledged 109 billion euros, India has announced $1.25 billion, and Saudi Arabia’s Project Transcendence is a major $100 billion initiative.
Global AI Index Ranking (2024)
- United States: First, score 78.60 – Leading in R&D, economy, infrastructure, AI model production, private investment and compute capacity. Notable models include Gemini 2.0 Pro, o1, Llama 3.1.
- China: Second, score 36.95 – Strong in R&D, publications, citations, patents and launching AI models such as DeepSeek. Its government strategy integrates AI widely into the economy.
- India: Third, score 21.59 – A jump from 7th position in 2023, reflecting efforts to strengthen the AI ecosystem, policy support and talent development.
- Other notable countries: South Korea (17.24) – Fourth, United Kingdom (16.64) – Fifth.
