Mulya Pravah 2.0: UGC’s Values And Ethics In Higher Education

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a guideline Mulya Pravah 2.0, a modified version of Mulya Pravah. It focuses on human values and professional ethics in higher education.

About Mulya Pravah

• In 2019, the UGC created "Mulya Pravah" guidelines to promote ethical behavior and values in colleges and universities. These guidelines are part of the Quality Mandate initiative.
• These guidelines have been revised to include the key recommendations of the National Education Policy, 2020 (NEP-2020) announced on July 29, 2020. 
• The revised guidelines are called Mulya Pravah 2.0. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) should teach students to strongly appreciate Fundamental Duties and Constitutional Values.

Aim of Mulya Pravah 2.0

• The guidelines focus on the curriculum and teaching methods used in HEIs. The goal is to create a strong bond with country and create awareness about responsibilities in a changing world.
• The guidelines stress the importance of values that are important to all humans.
• The values are truth, righteous conduct, peace, love, non-violence, scientific temper, citizenship values, and life skills.
• A well-rounded education includes lessons in service. It also includes participating in community service programs. 

Importance of Mulya Pravah

• The policy suggests that education should shape character. It should help learners become ethical, rational, compassionate, and caring.
• It should prepare them for meaningful employment. India and the world are committed to promoting human values and professional ethics. This is done to improve our collective coexistence.
• The National Education Policy, 2020 (NEP 2020), the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, 2030 (SDG 2030), and the related Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) on Education can now guide higher education in adopting value-based and ethical practices.

Values and Ethics

1. Integrity: Integrity means doing your duties honestly, with trust, transparency, and fairness.

2. Trusteeship means running an institution efficiently, ethically, and truthfully. It involves encouraging group participation and maintaining a system of checks and balances.

3. Harmony: In order to achieve harmony, stakeholders need to balance diversity and differences. This can be done through a culture of tolerance, discussion, and forgiveness.

4. Accountability: Create an open and trusting environment. In this environment, it's important to allow for mistakes. This will motivate individuals to take responsibility for their actions.

5. Inclusiveness: Inclusiveness means an institution should have rules and guidelines. They should make sure that everyone has the same chances for education, work, and career growth, as well as other activities. This means treating everyone fairly, without discrimination.

6. Commitment: Be dedicated to the vision and mission of the institution. Acquire knowledge, skills, and attitudes to achieve excellence. Do this within regulatory boundaries.

7. Respect: Create an environment where everyone respects each other. They trust each other and interact well. The people involved in the institution should participate fairly.

8. Belongingness: The institute's vision will make everyone feel secure, supported, accepted, and included.

9. Sustainability: It means using resources efficiently in the economy, environment, and society. It ensures a long and secure future.

10. Constitutional Values: Commitment to the spirit of the constitution.
